Family Fun in The Wild West
The plan was to take our time getting to Moab on May 23rd to meet up with Kristin's parents. So we stopped a few places along the way to say the least.
First stop when heading up Hwy 287 is always Valley Pecans! It's a cute boutique type place in Chillicothe, TX that has a small restaurant and sells yummy treats.

The boys wanted wax candy bottles as a treat and we ended up buying a couple of packages of them, lemon drops and gummy sour pigs.
Wow those gummy sour pigs were fantastic!
Wish we would have bought a few more packages of them for the long trip ahead.

As you can see in this picture they have many different kinds and flavors of nuts to take on your trip.
Back on the road heading towards New Mexico and still full of wonder at what this trip is going to hold for our family.

Second stop is just inside New Mexico at Russell's Travel Center. This gas station/truck stop/restaurant is pretty neat as the owner has a museum inside with a bunch of his personal car collection along with tons of memorabilia. The store itself is pretty high priced and the service at the restaurant was not the best due to a limited amount of employees. But over all it was definitely worth a quick stop to see the museum and get some gas.

After a somewhat lackluster dinner we got back in the van and made our way to Tucumcari, NM for the night. Motel Safari was our choice to rest our minds and bodies along Route 66.
If you're looking for a bit of nostalgia this is the place for you. Although most of the places to stay have been shut down or condemned a few people have revitalized a couple of the motels. They have done a really good job of making you feel like your back in time with the exterior and interior furnishings.
